Pratchett is very unserious, but that's his thing; he satirizes everything and everyone! I highly recommend reading the book "Guards! Guards!". It's a short book, simply about what a real cat should be like. An independent investigation conducted by the campaign for true cat-ness found the answer. Nothing groundbreaking, just for those who want to laugh heartily. I read "The Witcher" by Sapkowski - a great book! I understand that fantasy is not for everyone, but if you like fantasy and haven't read "The Witcher" yet (just in case!), then you should fix this immediately! And "The Forsyte Saga" was filmed and even shown on TV.
