We played pretty evenly, but my opponent found a way to win on Dendars.

I went in the wrong direction; there were 3 treasure chests, and they all contained magic items. That's great, but not from the very beginning. And the group of Dendars (there were 49 of them) guarded the entire 5th level, which even when won, still resulted in a loss.
