Kurath was so engrossed in reading a book by Sonata Reime and watching the trains that he didn't notice someone approaching him from behind. A blow to the head with the blunt end of a weapon made him turn around and see someone's angry face.

Kurath generally liked the presentation, and Gailardia Reime in particular. But since he didn't have the money or anything else needed in such situations, and he really didn't like to waste his time drooling, the former sailor went to the station to watch the departing and arriving trains and people, while reading a book by Sonata Reime.

So, he spends time there, and then closer to evening (before it gets dark) he goes to the Ivory Tower and rents a room there for seven days.
