You can try playing matches as Talanar. To do this, take "Sylvan Leader," then, if you're lucky, "Assault," followed by "Battle Fury," then "Arrow Storm," and after "Advanced Assault," one of the three special skills should be "Retribution." If you do everything correctly, Talanar might turn out to be just as good as, say, Ossir or Wingael.
