I ran away from one job when I realized that I risked spending the rest of my life creating Excel spreadsheets without any prospect of growth. From a relatively high-paying job. But the meaningless routine was really getting to me. So I completely understand you. But yes, I first found my dream job, then took a vacation "for family reasons" and went through something like an internship at the new place, and when I was sure that I liked the new job more and they liked me too, then I left.
By the way, even in my dream job, I found a headache - having to account for every hour of my working time - how many hours were spent on what task. I wonder if these guys from the "European office" have any know-how on how to minimize this unpleasant bureaucratic moment.
