If a person says they are happy, why should I necessarily delve into the reasons?

In other words, if you, driven by a sudden surge of altruism and a desire to meddle in things that don't concern you, approach a person with cuts on their wrists who is standing on the edge of a bridge and ask if everything is okay, and they answer "yes, I'm happy" - will you start probing for the reasons?
Besides, Indians have a different culture, and there's no certainty that singing means excessive happiness.
