You need to save frequently in any game if you're not a noob, because bugs and various problems occur everywhere! By the way, I also have autosave enabled:D

I haven't crashed out of the game even once, but I have a licensed copy; maybe you have a buggy pirated version. I only save before a dungeon or a difficult battle, where I'm not very confident about the outcome.
Although sometimes I forget to save and lose a hero, then I have to go back 30-40 minutes, but it rarely happens.
