I think almost everyone can do that: by observing behavior, you can really learn something about a person's character, but it will be rather incomplete information if you only see them in a specific environment (day after day at work, for example).

I think Alex meant that external data shouldn't be off-putting.

Well, it depends on personal requirements regarding appearance. For some, that's enough, while others absolutely need a beautiful woman. For example, Tox will accept almost anyone, Revan absolutely needs an Asian woman, etc.
