NHF – new heroes for Heroes V 3.1.

Where did the icons for Harbu and Indira come from (who are these no-names, anyway), and why were they added? Were they found in the files, or were they created?

Exactly, these two icons are from the resources of Heroes of Might and Magic VII. The name Indira is made up, but the heroine herself isn't entirely original... she is mentioned in the game as the sister and fiancée in the biographies of two heroes! Those who have already had a chance to study version 0.86 will understand the references! The first person to answer correctly will receive a bonus from me!
