I disagree. I approve of Jackson's decision. This war in the book evokes the greatest disapproval in me. It completely contradicts the spirit and idea of the book; I don't know why Tolkien wrote it.

- Don't say that; the episode in the Shire shows how the hobbits matured during their wanderings. Besides, this serves as a final battle, somewhat diluting the overall happy ending. Without prolonging the finale, it would be impossible to avoid leaving too many unanswered questions if the book ended with the ring being thrown into Orodruin.
