On the one hand, I don't know anything about Japanese science, I haven't heard of any super-discoveries by Japanese scientists. On the other hand, they have excellent technology. On the third hand, there are enough slackers in any nation (if you remember Fukushima, for example). So, I don't quite understand how their selfless work of "25 hours a day" is more useful than the work of others for 6-8 hours a day.
