I don't know the circumstances surrounding Menta, except that he created a complex mechanic (and probably got into trouble during preparation because of it). I think that if there's a way to simplify the mechanic as much as possible (perhaps by temporarily replacing complex formulas with a random number from a range of values) and continue the game, it makes sense to do so, slowly refining the automatic calculation and gradually introducing various enhancements. In general, I would like to play (and at the same time test my own attempts at automatic calculation, which, although slowly, are progressing from experiment to experiment; another 5-10 games, and I might be able to simplify the GM's life, if Menta doesn't do it sooner) as long as I have the opportunity. But if the majority decides that it's easier to close it down, then I'll wait for the next game.
