I started experimenting with files about two years ago, as that's when I more or less figured out the intricacies of my computer. I created various things for personal use, but I can't find where the unit abilities are described. For example, here are the abilities of archmages:

ABILITY_NO_RANGE_PENALTY
ABILITY_MAGIC_ATTACK
ABILITY_ENERGY_CHANNEL

I found all the descriptions, and the dummy files needed to gather all the information in one place. But I can't find the actual mechanics. There's nothing even remotely similar. Where are they located?
