Could these problems be due to the widescreen monitor? I don't know what to think anymore, I've tried everything. In short, I'll do without animations for now.

What is the native resolution of your monitor? The game doesn't support 16:10, 3:2, or 5:4 aspect ratios and will only work in debug mode! Also, they warned that monitors like "WSVGA", "HDF", and "TK" won't work at full resolution with this game.
