Might & Magic X: Legacy (2014) is the tenth Might and Magic role-playing game, developed by Limbic Entertainment and published by Ubisoft[1][2]. It returns to the grid-based, turn-based style of the early games — "a style even its own series hasn't done since 1993's Darkside of Xeen" — and is set in Ashan, a few years after Might & Magic Heroes VI[3][1][4].

Development

  • Limbic Entertainment developed the game with art from Ubisoft Chengdu; Julien Pirou was its creative designer and writer[5][1].
  • It runs on Unity[3][1]. The principal themes were composed by Roc Chen and Jason Graves[5][4][6].
  • It was developed in the open: Early Access opened on 19 August 2013 with the first act and four of the twelve classes[7].

Per GameBanshee, Wikipedia, StopGame and Steam[7][1][8][9]. The Deluxe edition added a copy of Might and Magic VI, an extra dungeon and the first DLC[4].

Setting

A party of four "raiders" lands at Sorpigal-by-the-Sea to carry their late mentor's ashes to Karthal, the capital of a colony of the Holy Falcon Empire on the verge of secession, on the Agyn Peninsula[3][4][10]. The story runs over four acts[4]. The DLC The Falcon & The Unicorn continues it after the fourth act with an imprisonment on the island of Fort Laegaire[11][9][12].

Gameplay

  • A party of four, moving square by square in first person with turn-based combat[1][3].
  • Four races — human, orc, elf and dwarf — each with three classes: twelve in all, and over twenty skills[4][13].
  • Skills advance through the ranks Novice, Expert, Master and Grandmaster, each adding to the last; trainers are needed to rise a rank[14][1][15].
  • Three towns and one city, and more than twenty dungeons[4].

Reception

  • Metacritic: 71 out of 100 from 44 critics[2]. PC Gamer gave 73[3], Eurogamer 7 out of 10[16] and GameSpot 6 out of 10, criticising its dated production values[10].
  • Critics liked it as a faithful old-school role-playing game and criticised its small budget, dated look and Uplay requirement[3][16][10].
  • In Russia, Игромания gave 7.5 out of 10 — a worthy continuation hurt by too little money and experience, and rated the translation 4 out of 10[15]; StopGame rated it «Похвально»[17], AG.ru 60%[18] and 3DNews 6 out of 10[19].

Later history

When its online servers were switched off on 1 June 2021 the game could not be played past the first act, and Ubisoft briefly delisted it[20]. On 20 October 2021 it returned to sale fixed, with the DLC free for every owner[21].

Russian release

Бука published it in Russia as «Меч и Магия X: Наследие» on 23 January 2014[8][19][5].
