I like the Necropolis castle (based on the creatures). Cons: For Haven – peasants. For Academy – I don’t know, but they don’t appeal to me in the second game. I still like HEROES 2; all the castles are good in their own way. The only downside is that the magic is rather limited, and the graphics aren't very detailed; it's closer to HEROES 1 than to HEROES 3. P.S. I like the Knight Castle the most, and Barbarians are my second favorite; the rest don't have any particular advantages over each other. My favorite units are ogres (I remember building 20 ogre lords once and using them to clear an entire map), vampire lords are also great in combat, and I also like paladins, wizards, giants, and their upgraded versions, purely for their appearance.

I love playing as the Warlock most of all (the most practical castle).
Almost every L and XL map I played for results, I used him; otherwise, it was either Barbarian or Sorceress.
But the Sorceress is no less impressive in terms of aesthetics and unit speed (the main thing is to make the Barbarian a powerful hero)
And the Barbarian himself is strong.
I don't really like playing as the Wizard (too expensive, heroes level up poorly). On the other hand, the wizard's pluses are the hobbits and no redundant skills (advanced wisdom)
The Necromancer is also too expensive.
As for the Knight... for some reason before (before the release of Heroes III), I always loved playing as knights in both the first and second HEROES.

It’s hard to say which Castle is stronger; with the right strategy, you can crush anyone with anything (IMHO). I like playing as the Warlock; in all parts, I always choose Elves with Unicorns. It’s a good Castle, atmospheric, with 2 archers, a super-fast (and very beautiful) Phoenix, and Unicorns that blind (and are also beautiful). The Fairies overwhelm with numbers and have no retaliation; honestly, I prefer them to Gnomes, whom I don’t respect (by the time they arrive, others have already dealt with the enemy). And the fact that all the heroes are women isn’t that bad. Long live the matriarchy! :D

Warlock is certainly strong, but that shouldn't be the reason to vote for them. My choice is Necropolis! It's the most balanced of all the castles, and in my opinion, there's no archer unit that can match the speed of liches, and skeletons are always helpful.
It's a pity that there weren't many options to choose from back then...
