I usually start with the first album and try to listen to either the whole thing or until I catch myself thinking that listening to something quiet in my headphones and sitting with silent headphones feels suspiciously similar. More often than not, I manage to listen to everything, even if I later pick out a dozen songs (like with Deep Purple) or just sit there in awe, thinking, "What was I even listening to, and why?" (like with Led Zeppelin or, even more telling, Uriah Heep – I honestly listened to their entire discography, thinking they were one of the founding fathers of metal, so maybe at least something tasty will come out of it, but it's just not my thing at all, very rarely do even a few songs really appeal to me, I prefer something more upbeat). Maybe I'm missing out on a lot, but I find it more enjoyable to listen to an entire discography than just three mega-hit songs.
