Ebon Tararam
On the third floor of a modest country estate, a bald young man was packing his things, intending to travel somewhere far away.
- Where do you think you're going? - a stern voice sounded from behind Ebon.
Ebon turned around, took a deep breath, opened his mouth to answer, but uttered nothing; instead, he pointed with his right hand somewhere forward, then paused in thought, brought his hand to his chin, pointed left with the other hand, removed the right hand from his chin and scratched the back of his head with it, pointed right with his left hand, wanted to say something, but another question from the same man stopped him.
- You're mocking me as usual, aren't you?
- Dad...
- Don't call me that! That is how commoners speak. You've picked up all sorts of things from them. Thank Arcadia that you haven't caught some disease yet. How many times have I told you not to associate with them? You should have finally started helping me manage the lands. You spend your whole day doing useless nonsense. Why did I raise you? So you could play with knives, carve those stupid figurines, smoke that filth of yours and consort with village fools? Silent? As usual. Listen to me, son, if you...
Before the man could finish, he suddenly fell into a deep sleep and began to fall, but Ebon managed to catch him and gently lay him on the floor, humming a song.
- Fall asleep in my arms, fall asleep, fall asleep to the singing of the rain, far away, where the edge of the sky ends, I will find the lost paradise.
Ebon placed a pillow under his father's head, put some scroll into his hand and left the room. Going downstairs, Tararam slapped the buttocks of a young maid, who blushed and became embarrassed as usual; he said goodbye to her and crossed the threshold of his home for the last time.
Ebon Tararam was born into the family of a moderately wealthy landowner. His father was a stern but fair lord. He always treated the people who worked for him well, though he felt no particular love or affection for them. Being the firstborn, Ebon did not lack attention from his parents, who put all their effort into raising him to be a worthy person, but something went wrong.
Expressing a desire to study at the Academy of Sorcery, Ebon nevertheless gained a reputation as a poor student. No, he wasn't stupid; he was simply lazy, inattentive, constantly had his head in the clouds and thought slowly. And although many teachers saw talent and potential for growth in him, Tararam never utilized that potential. Instead of studying magic, Ebon did whatever interested him at any given moment and read various clever books that were completely useless in practical terms. Also, he loved to smoke a very good herb. Really very good. Having barely finished basic training, Ebon returned home, where he continued to engage in the useless nonsense that he enjoyed. But one day, a new book came into his hands titled: “Elulu-Suen. Awakening”.
- Ebon, traveling far? - an old man working in the field addressed Tararam as he rode by on horseback.
- Getting out of this wonderful continent!
- Heh, look what you've planned. With some kind of, what is it, calunizator bush?
- Something like that. I'll jump onto someone's ship and head to some quiet little island. Far away from here.
- But what about your dad, surely you won't leave the old man alone?
- Don't worry about him; my younger brothers will grow up in ten years or so and help him. He'll actually be glad to forget about me.
- Oh, you! Well alright, everyone has their own path. Be well then, may Arcadia help you.
- And stay healthy, Bolan, farewell.
