Too bad this night will pass without me; that last Sapsan train slipped away right under my nose. But I'll wake you up in the morning!

Looks like I'm getting lucky. Out of all the nearby trains, they offered me a compartment in a two-story train (first time in my life in such a train!).

Overall, MPS has done a great job with the trains! It's like a European standard with all the amenities and everything that comes with it. I'm in the first car, in the first compartment from the conductor (she's about 40, but very polite). The main thing is this: I checked online, and there were no tickets available, or all the seats were taken. I rushed to the station for the Sapsan, and it turned out that I'm the only one in the compartment, and there will be no one else in it until St. Petersburg! So, I ended up with a deluxe single compartment for 2650!
