I used to be strongly against smoking and never smoked. My classmates smoked in the restrooms, and I was considered a "loser" by them. But after graduating from school, I unexpectedly started smoking in my second year of university... I don't know why this shift happened. I've been smoking since I was 18, and I don't plan to quit yet.
And I advise you not to make promises you can't keep... Anything can happen.
Oh dear, oh dear!!! What good people are doing – smoking – how can I now look at them with the same admiration? They are wasting money and ruining their bodies for no reason!!! Oh dear, oh dear – it’s bad, very bad. I understood back when I was 11 that it’s nonsense – not only unpleasant, but also dangerous.
I don't like to repeat myself, but I managed to quit after a six-month period of use!!!!! I got sick in early September, and I thought, "Great, no one will be home, I can sit at the computer and smoke without hiding," but to my annoyance (as it seemed then), my mom took a vacation and was home most of the time... Of course, I couldn't smoke... About a week or two later, when I returned to school and my friends offered me a cigarette out of habit, but to my surprise (???) the thought crossed my mind (strange, right?) "I've lived without smoking for a week, and I don't even feel like it anymore... Why should I poison myself?" So I refused... I don't smoke now... Although, I've been craving beer and girls... :)

In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war...
Ah... the words are all correct... like from a podium: "In a united effort, comrades!" and so on... It reminds me of something painfully familiar and somewhat forgotten:) In general, I agree with the only sensible post in this thread: "DON'T MAKE PROMISES." Smoking is not a trivial matter (there's really no point in smoking just for fun, or doing anything else for that matter... well, like sex, for example, etc.), smoking is a LIFESTYLE, and it develops under the influence of many factors. From the simplest (stress relief) to something more global - as a necessary psychological component of a state of loneliness or creativity (which, in general, is also a form of loneliness) or a reaction to the surrounding reality. A person is always dependent on something (on parents, on all sorts of stereotypes, on society in general, on energy vampirism - if the person is a donor, etc.), so smoking - this is an established fact by psychologists - is a kind of counterbalance, a way to distance oneself from dependencies that are too overwhelming. It's like a subconscious instinct for self-preservation. This, by the way, applies not only to smoking but also to alcohol and drugs. Up to a certain point, a person may seem to be doing well - and everything seems to be normal, but then comes the moment of truth, when they break down and start doing "wrong" things... No one is immune to this.

I smoke and drink a little bit of everything... I'm trying to quit smoking starting from the new year... but it's not working (I guess I don't have enough willpower!). I'm not planning on quitting drinking... because I don't drink much. Sometimes I have a bottle of beer during the day, and on weekends, maybe a bit more! I think it's important to relax somehow after stressful workdays... otherwise, you might just go crazy from the stress!!!!!!!!!!
That's true – don't say never! And in general, if you don't smoke, don't start! I also thought I would never smoke; I even felt nauseous from the smoke! And I didn't smoke until I was about 23! And then I broke down! I tried it! Not out of a whim, but because everything went upside down in my life, and I often experience stress at work! In general, a BLACK streak came in my life! But at least not in a big way! There's no pleasure in it! You just relieve stress! But I'll tell you, that's not the solution! Then everything settled down – I don't smoke anymore, and I wish the same for you!))))
I don't smoke cigarettes because I don't see the point. If you drink, it's either to enjoy the taste or to relax. If you smoke a pipe (I really want to, but it's too expensive), you can at least enjoy the tobacco. But with cigarettes, there's no pleasure, just a psychological effect, which some people experience and others don't. And you have to spend money regularly, it becomes addictive, and it harms your health. Although the heart is unpredictable; you can drink all night and have no problems, or you can drink a cup of coffee and have a heart attack. As for drugs, I'm strongly against them; they make you dull, and the addiction is stronger.
I don't smoke and haven't tried it; for most of my life, I lived in an apartment with smoking neighbors. Now, even a slight smell of cigarettes (especially cheap ones) makes me nauseous and gives me a headache. In general, I don't want to offend anyone, but in my opinion, smokers are people with weak willpower who are addicted to this habit. Of course, it's clear that smoking harms their health, but the fact that smokers harm those around them is what's upsetting!
