I need some information...
Is it possible to convert a .GM1 save file (Heroes 3 Shades of Darkness) into a map for further editing, and then back again?

Are you sure you're asking the right question? You can simply edit any map in the editor. And the save file is NOT a map, but a file containing specific information about the map. Therefore, editing it is impossible. Logic suggests that this is the case.

You're not looking for easy solutions. Only Hardcore. But why make a mess?:confused: I'm sure that no one was planning to come up with anything like that. Because no one needs it. It's much easier to open a map, edit it to your liking, and then play.

I only play RPG maps, meaning single-player maps designed for completing the story, and in real-time, they take months to finish....

The Empire of the World 2 – a friend of mine completed this map in a day; I remember starting it too, but I didn't finish it. I had a bug in Necropolis with the Admiral's Hat. I haven't played the others.

Just don't rush and read the story carefully; I'm sure it will captivate you for a long time. However, be warned, this map is not for beginners; I myself barely managed to complete it, considering my experience from official game tournaments.
