Posts from Aspect ratio is not preserved in widescreen mode.
I recently bought a 20-inch widescreen monitor. So, I launch Heroes 5... I set the resolution to 1680x1080. The image should theoretically be cropped from the top and bottom, and more should be visible horizontally. But for some reason, everything is stretched. That is, it's just a simple stretch... what should I do? It's simply unpleasant to play with these proportions. Why doesn't such a modern game have a widescreen mode???? Which patch could fix this???
Geksorin, Winfast Geforce 7800GS. I updated the drivers about 2 weeks ago. I have Vista installed. In many games, you just check the "Widescreen Mode" box, and everything works fine. I think the problem lies within the game itself. Will installing Hammers of Fate fix the issue?
Now, I'll check if the game supports your resolution, and I'll tell you this: if possible, download the Nvideo OMEGA Driver, it's a special driver optimized for games... you'll ask where to find it, and I'll answer: search!

As I understand from the latest post, everything works at your resolution, but things are worse with other resolutions, so this is a bug of the programmers, therefore I think you should install Lords of the North, because they were obliged to include widescreen resolutions there.
I installed Hammers of Fate... and it's the same... everything is stretched. Is it really that hard for them to make a widescreen display in the game???
You know, I'm a bit confused; as far as I know, they improved the widescreen mode in Hammers of Fate, but does it work on other widescreen resolutions?
Here is one of the latest posts from Nival
Just installed it on my laptop - 17-inch wide format 16:10, resolution 1920х1200; there is a severe squashing of the screen. Now, playing as my favorite dwarves is cool, of course — they seem even more powerful! But what am I supposed to do with the others? Gentlemen from Nival, I haven't found a single comment from you in this thread; perhaps you could finally pay attention to the rather numerous army of widescreen owners? You've made such a wonderful game, yet didn't perform a full adaptation
The same Oblivion and Dark Crusade run perfectly in wide format...
So as you can see, things aren't quite as one would hope; I'll browse Nival a bit more now, maybe I'll dig something up.
Well, I can only recommend that you write on the Nival forum yourself and read what they write there... as you can see, no one has written anything in this topic, which means they don't have a solution to your problem...
I already posted about it there... many people are experiencing this issue. But the problem is that Nival Interactive hasn't fixed it in all this time. I'm afraid they won't fix it at all.
I have a widescreen ViewSonic 19" monitor, and everything runs great with a resolution of 1440x900, but other resolutions are also supported. The differences are only noticeable in the main menu, and even then, they are not significant. In the game itself, everything is just great.
Maybe you have a problem with Windows - Vista is terrible.
