Experienced players, what are your thoughts on using ballistas in battles, and what about heroes with the Artillery skill or specialization in ballistas? Is it worth using them, and can they help reduce unnecessary losses in your army?

For Inferno and Stronghold, heroes with ballistas are good and can be leveled up. For other castles, it's not very effective. But it's generally worth recruiting ballistas into the main army: they don't slow down the army and provide extra damage for neutral creatures (250 HP is still a significant amount, plus stats).

It's not just about damage; you can also successfully use the ballista to deal with slow, low-morale neutral creatures with weak troops. The damage is minimal, but it's there. Golems on levels 111-113 can be defeated in any quantity. I wouldn't underestimate the ballista, although it's not a good idea to heavily invest in artillery. Unless, of course, Gurney can do something serious with it.
