Hello! Congratulations on your victory in M-200%№6!!! I'd be remiss not to ask: you're a girl, how did you end up in the Heroes community, who brought you in or taught you?
Hello. Honestly, I didn't plan on playing Heroes online seriously. One day I was bored, remembered the HW forum I'd stumbled upon while browsing the internet, and decided to try playing the game of my childhood online just once. I left my ICQ number, a player who was also just starting out messaged me. It's fun to play and chat with him, so instead of a single game, we ended up playing occasionally, maybe about once a month, sometimes a bit more often. But I always lost. And then stubbornness kicked in — what, I can't learn to play properly at all? I started trying to play better, evaluating my mistakes. He helped me too. I "returned" to HW almost a year later, in 2012, wanting to participate in the summer Newbie tournament.
So, roughly speaking, you're a beginner, how did you manage to win the tournament? And at what stage did you get the idea that this tournament was within your reach?
Well, I'm not entirely a beginner; more than half a year had passed since summer, and before that, that player (his nickname is WiZarDX_576, but he rarely appears on HW) and I had brought my skill level up to "beginner+". That is, in the summer Newbie tournament, I could already take the drake nest on the first Shakti, or a small Griffin Conservatory on the second.
As for the tournament...
I didn't expect I could win. But I've always liked M-map, and I felt I understood how to play it. Because often, what is taken for granted on other templates is bad on M-map. The first thought that I could win came after the 3rd game, which was extremely difficult. It seemed hopeless, but I somehow managed to win. That really boosted my morale :) I also can't ignore the favorability of the RNG, although that wasn't the case for all games.
I see. What's your favorite template in this format? And which towns are you most comfortable with on M-200%.
The Skirmish template. The thing is, when I played fun games in preparation for the tournament, it was the most interesting for me. In general, I have a problem with Heroes — often the endgames turn out to be purely formal (or maybe I'm just lucky). It was on this template that I had the highest percentage of interesting endgames. So I always tried to choose it. And I don't regret it. As for 2sm2c, it generated kinda weirdly in fun games and I didn't like it, so I usually crossed it out. Regarding towns, I won't be original — it's Tower. In my opinion, even the difficulty of development doesn't negate its advantages on M-map. I always set 1-3 there and that was enough.
I tried to figure out what your nickname means, but I still don't get it :)
The nickname is the name of the Aztec goddess of frost and mists. I was into books about Native Americans for a while, and I thought their gods' names were very amusing. And once, I don't remember where I was registering, and it kept saying that nickname was taken. Then I remembered them, found a goddess's name that you could actually pronounce, and since then I've been registering everywhere on the first try ;)
Thank you for the interesting interview. I think everyone on the forum would be all for it if you posted your photo.
I don't want to put it on public display yet. But... I'll win another tournament, and then I'll show it :) (I'm giving players the chance to blame their losses not on the RNG, but on gallantry and curiosity :-P)
