I started playing Baldur's Gate again, and since last time I played through the entire game as a mage, this time I made an ordinary warrior (I actually wanted to play as a monk, but I decided to try dual-wielding swords). I remembered how wild the randomness is here. The character, as well as his opponent, can swing at each other endlessly without hitting. While it's only the first level and everyone has just a little over ten (and the others have even less) hit points, it's quite tense because half of those hits are fatal. Almost from the very beginning, I headed towards the Temple west of Beregost, and in the northeast, I ran into vampire wolves. I replayed it many times, trying to kill them, but I couldn't. They have immunity to physical weapons, and only the main character (with a +1 longsword) and Jaheira (with a +1 staff) had +1 weapons. Then I gave up and went to do other things, thinking to myself, "I'll be back later." I was drawn in by a notice offering a reward of five thousand coins for Bassilus, and I started looking for him, which wasn't difficult – the memories of my previous playthroughs helped. It was a bit difficult (at level one), but thanks to some tactical tricks, I managed to defeat him and all his skeletons. What I noticed, and what's funny, is that I've never gone back for the reward before. But now I did, got the money, went to Beregost, bought a second +1 sword, and gave Khalida a +2 one-handed sword – then I went back to the vampire wolves. I was kind of luring them out one by one, but even then, I couldn't handle them for a long time. I managed to kill the first one on the tenth try (in the end, I put Viconia in the front to tank, because the others were almost immediately stunned when hit). Then I killed the second one. As a result, I got 2k experience from each of them. For level two characters, that's not bad at all.
