Hmm, there are cool 3D fighting games, like SoulCalibur. Although, if they were to move Guilty Gear into the third dimension (I don't consider Overture a full-fledged sequel, so I won't take it into account)...

If you're talking about companions, Motaro is the strongest because some abilities don't affect him. Shao Kahn isn't that hard to defeat.

Well, that's quite a statement. When the computer controls Shao Kahn, he becomes ridiculously fast and skilled. They even added moments where he stands and taunts his opponent (doing nothing) just to make the fight a little easier.
Actually, if you're looking for an easy but boring playthrough, Smoke is the best choice. You teleport constantly and can defeat even Shao Kahn without much effort.

IRL? Then this isn't the right part. I played a different one, where all the original characters were present, starting with Cage and Baraka, and ending with Ermac and Noob. True, Rain wasn't there, but there was Raiden. And yes, instead of Goro, there's some clawed thing that looks like a Khajiit. But there were no other newcomers, including the freaks from MK4 on the PlayStation.

Kana has a net, but Motaro doesn't (maybe some other abilities too). and Motaro's attacks are better, in my opinion. he can grab, like Goro, and beat you up until half your health is gone. + he moves faster
Motaro is harder to kill, but almost any character can do it (if you use my tactic), while Kana is easier, but you can't do it with just any character, because you need to know the abilities, and I don't know them all. that's it. and no one will help, maybe.
