There are days when, while playing (again) your favorite game, you realize that there is nothing left to play. That's how it was with me! And so I set out in search of some kind of collection…
After an hour and a half of searching through various stores, I stumbled upon a collection of old strategy games and, lo and behold, saw the game I had been dreaming of! It was King's Bounty 1 (KB)! I immediately bought this disc!
* * *
And so, KB is installed, and I start playing! The first picture that appeared before my eyes took me back to 1995. When I was still playing this game on my first computer, and spent nights playing it! Well, let's move on: the goal of the game is to gather an army and go to some world, collect 20 pieces of the map, and find the artifact needed to defeat the evil wizard (as for me, the goal of the game is standard). So, we start near our home, and it's best to go there right away, because it will be tough! In the city, you can hire warriors and go to the king, either for a quest or to increase your military rank, which is very useful. Because without increasing your rank, you will hardly make it to the last continent (I'm not even talking about the end of the game!). And so, the army is assembled, and we begin our show, that is, the game (something carried me away). The goal of the game is to travel through different continents, and there are as many as 4, collecting various things like gold, armies, treasures, maps to the next continents, pieces of the puzzle map, etc., but at the same time, doing good deeds for people, thereby earning a living! In most cases, to complete the puzzle map, you need to fulfill contracts, which can (or even should) be concluded in villages! The goal of the contract is to free some lord, count, or king (underline the appropriate one) from the oppression of evil lords, counts, or kings (you know what to do). When you receive a contract, you need to find the right castle and attack! You can also find out information about the contract, that is, how much money they will give you, the name of the castle, and the continent where it is located, and much more is written, but I didn't delve into it, firstly, I had enough of what I wrote above, and secondly, I didn't understand anything (what if it says how to conquer it correctly?)
Wow, no further here, there's a guy with a crossbow, and I'm afraid of him! I couldn't defeat the army in Saharia for the 4th time...
…After 2 days: the army is assembled, now we can attack, with God! Oh, but they want to join, that's good, we read "Out of control", that's bad, well, okay, we'll fire them, unfortunately, there is no reserve here, unlike KB2…
As you can see, the troops here may express a desire to join your "valiant" army! The game features something called "leadership," and the more leadership you have, the more troops you can hire. If there is less leadership, the warriors go out of control and, as a rule, usually run away. If this happens during your heroic battle, the warriors who have gone out of control begin to attack their former comrades-in-arms!
There are many troops in the game, from peasants to dragons, of course, their graphics are not impressive, but for the time the game was released (1991, by the way), it was normal…
Wow, what is this hippopotamus with wings, and also sick with rubella, attacking me!? Ah, it's a demon… well, okay. And what is this 8-)? A DRAGON??? Wow, this dragon is definitely not suffering from a lack of food! Let's continue walking around Saharia, so here we have who, ah, darkness of skeletons (by the way, skeletons in the game are depicted with some kind of knives that look convincingly like a razor) a little hippopotamus... well, that is, demons. And a lot of dwarves, and believe me, there was more than enough of them to defeat my army, no, of course, my army was not very good, but still!
Honestly, I couldn't determine the strongest unit in this game. Dragons? Well, maybe dragons, but I didn't have them, because I didn't find their lair! I finished the game with a crappy army, and on the last continent, which is called, as you understand, Saharia, I fought as many as 3 times, and even if it weren't necessary to fulfill contracts, I would have fought only once! My motto (during the journey through Saharia) was: "As long as they don't hit, run, but don't run into trouble!"
Let's move on to the review of the most important thing: graphics and sound! Oh-oh-oh, the graphics are above all praise (at that time, the graphics really were above all praise) if you don't take into account that the main hero, that is, you, looks like a Formula 1 racer, and your brave steed (probably an Arab) looks like an old nag that is living out its last days, but when you move, your nag jumps as if it had been shot! But in general, the graphics are okay, it will get a solid 3, if you take into account the time! But in this game, graphics are not the main thing. Personally, I was so immersed in the game that I didn't care that the units have square heads, that the zombies look not at all like zombies, but like the Medusa Gorgon, that orcs probably look like zombies, that peasants, for some reason, walk with pitchforks, and not with forks, as everyone is used to seeing them, and that wolves look like ordinary small mongrels, etc.! But most of all, I was impressed by the demons(((!!! Something I got off topic, let's continue. So, the sound, it's also top-notch, you know, I listened with pleasure to the sounds of the speaker, there is no music, or maybe that's a good thing, because if they had made the sound and music from the speakers at that time, I think nothing good would have come of it, and I would have turned off the speakers after 2 days (but this is purely my opinion)! Some may like to listen to the squeak from the speakers, but I'm not one of them!
SUMMARY OF THE KING’S BOUNTY GAME REVIEW
In conclusion, I can only say one thing, the game was a success. I played it in 1995, I play it now! Everything is well thought out (if you don't take into account the sound), even the graphics are not bad. Above, I described only some minor shortcomings, but there are also nice models of units in the game, that very demon, he is a hippopotamus, but still a very "cute" hippopotamus! I advise everyone to play, without exception, and especially those who love old, interesting, and sometimes even funny games! In my opinion, the game is a Must Have!
DON'T JUDGE TOO HARSHLY, THIS IS MY FIRST ARTICLE, A DEBUT, SO TO SPEAK!!:) :)
Sorry for the lack of screenshots...:(
