Hardware: P4 2.4 GHz RAM 512+256 Video GeForce4 64M Ti4200 When the game menu appears, the screen starts to flicker. Try different drivers, including older ones (but only those that support DX9c, or even without it).
Also, install HeroesV Tweaker:
http://heroes-of-m-and-m-5.narod.ru/mods/h5_tweak.rar and experiment with the video settings (disable all the features designed for modern graphics cards).

If you read the hardware requirements carefully (they are on the disc in small print), it says that this specific video card is not suitable for Heroes 5. I had exactly the same situation with flickering; until I changed the card to a more powerful 128Radeon 9400, the problem persisted. So you will have to change your GPU, alas.

I wasn't trying to offend you at all; I readily believe that you can both read and write. I just had exactly the same problem: the letters and numbers would flash, and I couldn't read anything. No reinstallations or driver updates helped; I had to replace the video card, although otherwise it suited me. By the way, what don't you like about pretty covers? ;)
