Well, starting with the Swamp is definitely out of the question, and it's problematic to take cows to the Arena. They could only be used against Azure Dragons, for example, or like Vampires. As for the third, we'll see! ;) Not the Conservatory, but the Angel Dwelling first. You need 1 Angel, a Ballista, a little magic, and someone to place on the front lines.

This map was first played in 2004. The starting save did not have the Legion statue, and the wings were weakly guarded. Oh, I understand you perfectly! I share the SAME OPINION. I only managed to finish this morning (I played until 3 am), and I've already sent it. But the scores I got are VERY worrying. My plans, which I had, did not come true...:( I started GREAT, but towards the end, a lot of surprises happened... I finished poorly, and the damn computer, Azure Dragons, and in general - only at the end of the game did I realize that I MADE a mistake when I started playing as Dungeon. This mistake became FATAL (I should have chosen Castle or, at worst, Tower).

Since the deadline for submitting saves has come to an end, LET'S ALL TOGETHER share our impressions. Even if they might seem silly to some, they will teach both newcomers and veterans a lot.
Maybe let's start with who started with which Castle? Only with an explanation of the reasons, all the pros and cons.
Just a few words: 1. I started with exploring the map. 5 exit points. What immediately catches the eye: the swamp is in the swamp, the Titans are in the snow, the dungeon is underground... well, in general, everything as usual, but Castle has a lot of space, resources, and dwellings. Mage has 2 external Titan dwelling huts right away. In the Dungeon, there are no dragons at all. There are several Castle-type towns on the map. In short, initially you should play either as Mage (2 Titan manufactories + 2 towns close by) or as Castle (one Angel manufactory, but no snow at all and lots of space + it's much easier to start developing with an Angel than with a Giant). 2. Let's look at artifacts. In the Dungeon and near one of the exits, there is a Necromancer's Cloak: awesome! How to get it - either play as Dungeon, or as Castle (another plus in Castle's favor). It would seem that playing as the others, you could also quickly assemble this artifact, but you need to account for the long detour through the Dungeon + the good guard of the boots. That's where I started. 100 skeletons + wyverns were successfully spent. Also, while going for the cloak in the Dungeon, you can collect parts of the Legion, the Water Book, and parts of the Angelic Alliance. (in general, a decent plan - go right to left through the Dungeon). The remaining artifacts are in Utopias. I tried in the first attempt to take them with 1K skeletons without the Water Book - a complete fiasco. A good scheme worked when cloning 400 liches, using tactics (defending them with skeletons) for almost 20000 damage per shot across 4 tiles. 3. Hero. Since we are collecting skeletons - the best breakthrough machine is Galthran. The main hero is Crag Hack (heh-heh, I just like him). On SoD, various bonuses are absent, but I still level up Defense, Wisdom, Tactics, Earth Magic, Logistics. I persistently kept getting offered Fire Magic. Because of this, I had to take Resistance (probably not needed here). The other heroes on SoD - out of the available ones - are only powerhouses, specialists in Attack or Defense. So, I chose my main ones, the rest are gold specialists. (I just never understood, at the start of the tournament everyone said the main tactic was hero selection, and again everyone claimed the hero should be a monster specialist. Which monster? With 60 (let alone 100) Archangels, a hero's bonus for Liches or Cavalry will be negligible compared to the Defense or Attack bonus for Archs! A movement bonus - THAT would be something!!!, but it doesn't participate in the arena :( That's my IMHO) 4. Tactics: As I already said - one (Galthran) moves through the Dungeon with a horde of Skeletons and collects the Cloak. He should emerge on the surface near the drawbridge area. The second (Crag Hack) goes around the stat booster locations, takes out Rampart, and waits for the path to the drawbridge to open. Additional heroes - one follows Galthran, picking up loot, one circles the entire north-eastern area, one the south-eastern, southern.
5. Result (bad, I am not satisfied - I screwed up a lot): by the middle of the second month, the Dungeon is entirely mine, Galthran (having only 500 Liches) goes for the Titans, Crag Hack should get Town Portal now (not finished yet, should finish today). Unfortunately, the Utopias are still with the Azure Dragons. I plan to enter the arena with Titans, Behemoths, Black Dragons, Archangels, Cavalry, Fanatics, and Liches.
1. The Beginning. I chose Dungeon immediately without hesitation. I picked it because it's my favorite town; I bet everything on my Black Dragons. After scouting, I realized the choice was exactly what I NEEDED! 2 Dungeon towns by the end of the 1st week – that's COOL! Guys, I swear I forgot that external dwellings add growth to the town (it's been so long since I played HoMM 3)... what a shame, I FORGOT! (by the time I remembered, it was already too late). If you approach this logically, it looks like this: Swamp – two towns on the map, located far from each other. The town is weak, and since it's stuck in a swamp, we don't have time. So, a Fail! Rampart – only one town on the map. An immediate Fail. Dungeon – 2 towns very close to each other, a great place for development (lots of resources, mines, and room to expand). Almost the center of the UNIVERSE (and all the most important artifacts). Grade: Satisfactory. Tower – 2 towns almost next to each other (though it's a long walk). Two Titan recruitment sites (though they are in the middle of nowhere, about a week's travel). And of course, winter, which slows down early development. But despite many initial downsides, it turns out not so bad in the end (12 Titans per week). Plus, Tower offers the advantage of being located near Dungeon towns. With a short path, you can reach the dungeon treasury. Grade: Good. Castle – 3 towns in relative proximity (this relativity is achieved by straight, albeit long, roads). Connection between cities is excellent, there is centralization. For thrill-seekers – there is one more Castle town. There is one Angel recruitment site that adds growth. In the end, it results in 13 Angels per week (4*3+1). And the opportunity to visit the Griffin Towers (that's another 25-30 Angels). There are no nearby swamps or winters, so early development is not hindered. Grade: Excellent! If I had realized this sooner, I would have shown the best result, BUT it would have been with Castle.
On day 1-2-1, I buy 1 Red Dragon and go crush everyone with it!:) Playing as Dungeon, I made fantastic progress: at the end of week 1: 2 Dungeon towns (DRAGONS already built in one of them). at the end of week 2: 5 towns. 2 of them are Dungeon (with dragons built). at the end of week 3: 8 towns. 2 Dungeon with Dragons, 2 Tower with Titans built! at the end of week 4 (end of the month): 2 Dungeon towns, 2 Tower towns, 3 Castle towns with Angels built. And of course, the LEGIONNAIRE statue! …after that, my progress began to fade…:(
2. Artifacts. Priority artifacts are: Legionnaire's statue, Cloak of Undead, Angel's alliance. I started collecting them in that exact sequence (by degree of importance). I never managed to get the Sphere of Forbidding, I simply ran out of time! I had the Legionnaire's statue in hand at the end of the month (1-4-7) – isn't that surgical precision!? And most importantly, just in time! I assembled the Cloak in the middle of the second month (hence only 650 liches). The Alliance wasn't urgent, the main thing was that it WAS there in the end!
3. Heroes. Two main Heroes: Pyre, who blazed the trail during the first week (without her logistics, I wouldn't have accomplished much). Galtran joins at the start of the second week, gathering a crowd of skeletons, which then helps easily take down guards that Pyre couldn't have handled. Overall, they complemented each other very well. But since Galtran himself turned out to be a bit... (he is level 18), I made Pyre the Main (she is level 21). The level is low because many heroes participated in battles, and my primary goal wasn't Hero leveling. The main thing is the Angel's alliance (which I finally got toward the end).
4. Result. In the beginning, everything was great, but toward the end, there was a SEA of unpleasant surprises. The AI started barbarian raids on my towns. At first, I fought them off, but then I had to give up towns. And those Azure Dragons spoiled all the fun! They really are powerful – taking them is very hard (heavy losses, and I hate losses, ESPECIALLY heavy ones). I eventually got my revenge and beat them without losses!!! For this happiness, you don't need Clone magic or liches with skeletons. You need 2 stacks of Archangels (about 20 in each). Naturally, there wasn't enough gold to buy all the units (25 Titans, 10 Black Dragons, etc., are still left behind). And only at the end did I realize my main mistake – I SHOULD HAVE STARTED with Castle! This is the town that wins here!

At the moment, I have received saves from Preda, nprf, PALADINA, Nillsa, Emer-Gena, and Prorock. But I haven't looked at the last two yet.
I'll write very briefly about the ideas for this map. The first one, for SoD, is collecting liches. The second one, for TE, is collecting demons. Start. There are 3 options: Castle, Tower, Dungeon. Castle is simpler and develops faster. Tower has a slow start, but the shooters can be very strong in the arena. Dungeon has a good location, and you need to be able to quickly capture Castle, Tower, and Swamp. There's a difficulty with Rampart, which is very necessary because of the Treasury! You need to play the entire map hiring a minimum — only angels in the Dungeons, leading the game with angels from the Griffin Conservatories. Then, by the end of the game, the income exceeds 1,000,000!!! Hero selection: Naturally, warriors, because of the Red Sphere. BUT there are interesting possibilities besides the traditional Crag Hack, Tazar, etc. Here, the main stacks can be liches — that means Moandor as well! Demons — Marius. I also tried out Orrin, since there's a possibility to collect the Armor of the Damned, which breaks through the Red Sphere! Thus, an army of about 100 Titans, 600-800 Sharpshooters, 200-300 Zealots, Eyes, Medusas, Archmagi, and Archangels. Very effective against demons. In a few days, I'll finish the arenas, and everything will be clear.

I only managed to gather the statue on the second-to-last week. (It only worked for 2 weeks! :( ) Hence the result.
An interesting moment – I barely managed to defeat the computer hero who was digging for the Grail!!! :) (I was already planning to dig a third pit!) This happened on the 6th or 7th week. What do the rules say about this? If the computer had managed to dig it up and build it in the city?
I was constantly sorting through gems and had to sell them. And on the last day, it turned out that I needed about 300 gems. There wasn't much of a problem with money – by the end, I had accumulated about 800,000. And even then, I had to mortgage all my resources to buy the liches. The gem problem was solved simply: for almost the entire second half of the game, one secondary hero collected peasants and halflings and converted them into skeletons. Then a converter was built, and thanks to these skeletons (+ skeletons from Galtran), I obtained the necessary number of gems.
For the arena, I bet on behemoths and black dragons. But maybe that was a mistake. I should have taken crusaders and griffons instead.
The main forces are about 1.3K liches and 97 archmages. There is no Sphere of Inhibition. So, we are casting spells to the fullest. :)
