I like it too. I read "The Black Arrow" and found a lot of valuable lessons in it. Such books are much better than "Tanya Grotter," for example, where a simple parody has turned into outright plagiarism.
I don't entirely agree, but the author seems to have run out of ideas, that's a fact.
I read A. Pekhov, Lukyanenko, Perumov, Tolkien, Cook (Garrett, Private Investigator series), Gromiko (!!! Everyone should read him!!!), Panov, Belyanin...
I don't particularly like Goodkind, and I haven't enjoyed the latest books by Asprin.

I don't like fantasy. I read something else... My favorite book is "Perfume" by Süskind. Also, "Flowers for Algernon" (it has elements of science fiction, but the book isn't really about that...), I also like John Fowles ("The Collector"). But my absolute favorite book is Ilf and Petrov - "The Golden Calf" :-) It's a masterpiece).

This summer, I read exactly 30 works by 20th-century classics (well... let's say that by "classics," I mean writers and works from the school curriculum). I enjoyed "And the Day Lasts Longer Than a Century..." by Aitmatov, "Quiet Flows the Don" by Sholokhov, and "The Gulag Archipelago" by Solzhenitsyn. Unfortunately, I haven't read much contemporary literature – science fiction, detective stories – I'd rather catch up on the classics. I'll admit, while I'm studying, I DON'T read; I ONLY read during the summer. I don't really like this contrast, but somehow it doesn't work out. But in general, I love to read. It's just that the computer sometimes distracts me and prevents me from getting into the right mood. It draws me to it.

Good book, I liked it very much too. In general, I love those. The historical era is quite well-written. I also recommend reading Dumas, "The Prince of Outcasts". He may not be a Knight, but he's a defender of the poor. Also not bad :)
But generally, I read Hemingway, Marquez, Borges. I used to read science fiction and adventure books. I especially love Jack London. I don't read fantasy. I don't like it. I also don't like modern detectives and romance novels, which are churned out like pancakes. I once tried to follow the book trend and read "The Da Vinci Code" and regretted it. I won't follow trends anymore. I'll go back to Marquez :D
I'm reading Asimov, Perumov, Lukyanenko, Sheckley, the Strugatsky brothers, Pelevin, Akunin, Mishima, Murakami, and right now I'm finishing Gumilev. Generally, I read most often on the subway; it's hard to read at home, but sometimes I get into "book binges" where I read non-stop, like with Dostoevsky or Marquez... and I think modern romance novels are a waste of time.

The best among 20th-century classics is "The Master and Margarita." With a touch of fantasy.

It's great that you wrote about it! I remember reading "Ovod" in 8th grade. I was crazy about it. I cried at the end :o But what can you do, I was 13. Everyone who came to me with a smart look and told me about sophisticated books and thoughts, I told them to read "Ovod". It was something like this: "If you haven't read "Ovod", then you don't understand life at all!" :cool: Ah, youthful maximalism :rolleyes: :p :D
