I completed the mission... In principle, completing the mission is a matter of chance. Each time, the computer behaves differently. In my third attempt, the enemy didn't leave the upper right castle until I got close. Although the advice that it's better to develop the elven castles, not your own, was helpful :) By the way, diplomacy didn't help me much... Only every tenth squad from those I encountered joined me. The rest just ran away... Or fought... And I couldn't hire an elf hero at all, because they always offered others.

There were no problems in the mission. I completed it on the first try without any difficulty!

I played through it with this hero strategy:
Without stopping anywhere or capturing the lower castle, I went straight to the left castle through the elementals (using a clone, I cleared it without any losses).
To the right castle, where the strong elf is located, there are 2 paths: (through the middle and through the top). The elf attacked me almost immediately through the center, and I attacked his castle through the top. I captured it (which is very desirable) on the 1st day and bought 2 dragons (the elf apparently only built a dragon lair and was running around with only 1) and everything else. I didn't rebuild the left castle, so I had enough money. Basically, that's the end of the story - you defeat the elf, take back the left castle

The main thing is not to let him capture the mines, as he also has little money. Try to kill all his heroes who start moving. I easily defeated Gilraen; I was even surprised myself – one move, and the mission was over. I built the "summon creatures from the castle" magic, which helped a lot; I didn't have to go home every time. I captured the second castle (top right) and went with two heroes. By the way, the army wasn't very large (3 growth levels). You need to move quickly and conquer everything, attack him while he is weak.

A familiar problem, I managed to overcome it after a million attempts, after reading a step-by-step walkthrough. You need to quickly capture the lower castle, after capturing three mines – gold, with Ents, ore, and wood – and then quickly rush to the upper left castle, waiting for the enemy hero to leave. You need to rush through the stone elementals, as it's easier, because the phoenixes deal a lot of damage. I managed to survive them with a couple of dogs and a pitiful imp. Then, go around the lake and wait for Gilraen to come out of the castle, and then quickly capture him. Also, don't be stingy with additional heroes; I bought about three, and they promptly delivered my troops.
