Posts from Hero digger
I would like to present to you a "hero digger" for HoMM.
The program is quite raw, but it already works reasonably well.)
In the near future, I plan to make it possible to pause and save settings.
P.S.
Instructions are included.
P.S.
Please report any possible shortcomings or bugs here.
Dear Montza, your program is simply indispensable for a true offline player; I would like to express my immense gratitude to you from the entire Heroes community, the fans of Heroes 1!:smile01:
I have a few suggestions for upgrading the "hero digger"; if they are implemented, it will become a true masterpiece!:smile01:
1) Implement the ability to dig in 20 castles (very useful on large maps), or at least in 10:o
2) It is extremely important that the digger can reliably dig even if the hero has 2500 gold in the treasury (currently, it only works with 5000).
3) Provide an emergency stop for digging, using a hotkey.
4) Move the instructions into the program itself (create a separate tab).
Heroes with troops in the form of pictures and attached save files – that's great! I strongly recommend that all fans and professionals learn to use this product!!
P.S. If you follow the instructions, the digger works correctly; no bugs were found during testing, which is very pleasing:smile44:

It is extremely important that the digging ability functions properly, even if the hero has only 2500 gold in the treasury (currently, it only works with 5000).
Implement the ability to scout in 20 castles (very useful on large maps), or at least in 10.
This is indeed very important, but the difficulty lies in the fact that if you have less than 2500 after purchasing a hero (i.e., less than 5000 at the beginning of the process), you won't be able to see the army of the next hero that appears.
Even though Heroes of Might and Magic I doesn't have secondary skills, the starting army is the main asset of the little guys on horseback.
This is precisely why this program was created.;)

And why should the manual be called from within the program itself? For convenience? This is no longer a manual, but a description.
I have already added another nice feature: a file is created with statistics on excavations. It will look something like this:
Hero1 Warlock 8 Centaur 0 Gargoyle
Hero2 Knight 30 Peasant 0 Archer
Hero3 Warlock 7 Centaur 4 Gargoyle
Hero4 Knight 30 Peasant 0 Archer
Hero5 Sorceress 19 Fairy 3 Gnome
Hero6 Warlock 8 Centaur 0 Gargoyle
Hero7 Sorceress 18 Fairy 0 Gnome
Hero8 Knight 46 Peasant 5 Archer
Hero9 Knight 48 Peasant 5 Archer
Hero10 Warlock 6 Centaur 3 Gargoyle
Of course, digging will be allowed in any city. There will also be an emergency stop.
But why should the instructions be called from within the program itself? For convenience? This is no longer an instruction, but a description.
Of course, the most optimal solution in this regard would be to implement a system where the "hero digger" tracks the player's actions, i.e., as it was done in the "boat digger":
Step 1: Switch to windowed mode 640x480;
Step 2: Delete or move all saves from the GAMES folder;
Step 3: Make a save from which you will dig for heroes.
Note: Make sure that there is no hero in the Castle where the digging will take place. There should be at least 5000 gold in the treasury.
Step 4: Exit to the main menu of Heroes 1.
Step 5: Set the number of attempts, the Castle number, and the hero window in which you need to dig.
Step 6: Now everything is ready for digging.
Any deviation from these steps would notify the player about it. In addition, with the introduction of this implementation, the number of questions from players and the number of incorrect operations of the "hero digger" would be reduced to a minimum.;)
In my opinion, this is very convenient for the player.;)

Hero2 Knight 30 Peasant 0 Archer
Hero3 Warlock 7 Centaur 4 Gargoyle

Hero5 Sorceress 19 Fairy 3 Gnome
Hero6 Warlock 8 Centaur 0 Gargoyle
Hero7 Sorceress 18 Fairy 0 Gnome
Hero8 Knight 46 Peasant 5 Archer
Hero9 Knight 48 Peasant 5 Archer
Hero10 Warlock 6 Centaur 3 Gargoyle
Great! Can you add 2 more columns for the lazy ones?:o
Hero1 Warlock 8 Centaur 0 Gargoyle 1-1.gm5 Al5.bmp
Hero2 Knight 30 Peasant 0 Archer 1-3.gm5 Al3.bmp

1. Sometimes, you really need a specific hero – the army doesn't matter. That is, you still want to dig for a hero with less than 5000. The difference is just a click inside the castle. If we're digging for a hero, it's a right click; if we need an army, it's a left click. What do you think, Max?
2. A huge request... I'd like to know which heroes are sitting at the tavern, like the sniffer in Heroes of Might and Magic III. Please!!!
1. There will be no monitoring of the player (this is only needed for those who are not familiar with the program or do not read the instructions). An experienced player (like me) will only be annoyed by this monitoring. I set everything up in advance, and I don't want to click buttons unnecessarily.
2. I will add a save and a picture.
3. I will also add instructions.
to kami
1. What specific situations are you referring to? I can't think of any. If you need a hero of a specific class, you can simply dig him up manually. And if you need a dismissed or killed hero, that is prohibited by the rules.
2. Well, that's cheating! The program only automates actions, but I don't want to mess with save files.
2. ... I would like to know which heroes are sitting at the computer in the tavern, like the Sniffer in Heroes III. Please!!!Monza;1932312. Well, that's cheating) The program just automates actions, but breaking saves somehow doesn't feel right.
P.S. Sorry for the off-topic - the questions are important... :(
Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth...
You would gladly ban it if you could catch a player using it.
I repeat, a "digger" is an automation tool; if you know a way to find out the opponent's tavern guests using HoMM, please share it. And reading save files should only be allowed by heroes.exe.
P.S.
If there are many people who want it, a sniffer can be written, but it will be a separate program, not part of the "digger."
If you know a way to find out which heroes are visiting an opponent's tavern in HoMM, please share it.
There is a method, very simple in essence. It's a method of elimination. I know how many heroes there are in total. I know how many computer-controlled players are on the map. I subtract twice the second number from the first. Then I start digging up all possible heroes. As soon as their number equals the calculated number, I stop and look at the heroes that haven't been dug up. They are the ones sitting in the taverns of the computer-controlled players. The process is quite laborious, but it doesn't involve directly accessing the save file. Although, of course, that would be much easier.

1. The number of heroes in the opponent's taverns doesn't always depend only on the number of computer-controlled opponents.
2. There are also hired heroes. They need to be taken into account.
3. If you dig in the left slot of the tavern, you will never dig up a hero of the same class as the one in the right slot.
I came up with a way to dig for heroes with 2500 gold.
We load a save with 2500 gold, launch the hero-digging program, and dig for a hero, while the program saves the save file + a photo of the hero sitting underneath, with a right mouse click! The point is that the hero army will be unchanged and we will already know it in advance (when digging with 5000 gold), which means we only need to know the hero's photo.
Dear Monza, is it possible to implement point 2)?
P.S. This is not about hacking the save file; the program simply clicks the mouse button and saves the image.
Sincerely, VDV_forever
Well done, VDV, and what did I write about here?
1. Sometimes it still happens that a specific hero is needed - the army is not important. That is, I would still like to dig for heroes for less than 5000. The only difference is the click inside the Castle. If we are digging for a hero, then a right click is needed; if an army is needed, then a left click. What do you say, Max?
