And why Rome specifically? I much preferred Medieval, all the ideas that originated with Shogun (this was the first Total War game) are excellently implemented here. For me, Medieval even overshadowed Civilization 4, although I still enjoy 3, and 2 is just hardcore and unreal.
So, if you like games that make you think, try Sins of the Solar Empire. I didn't expect it to be such a revolutionary game, Sid Meier hasn't lost his touch. Just be prepared, if Civilization seemed complex to you, then the difficulty here is three times greater, but at the same time, it's incredibly interesting. Overall, I recommend it to everyone.

Yes, civilization is a cool topic, but we're discussing Rome here, and it's even cooler than civilization, as Monarch rightly said. Regarding the Spartans, they are defeated by Berserkers in a 1:1 ratio – meaning that in a normal scenario, for every Spartan unit, you need one Berserker unit, plus support. By the way, Spartans can also be defeated by Praetorian or Urban Cohort units, but only if they attack from the flank or the rear – in a frontal attack, the Spartans hold their ground. Also, well-aimed artillery fire can effectively decimate any type of unit, especially elephants. It's especially effective if the elephants are in the middle of the enemy's forces.

Perhaps the Spartans don't stand a chance against strong swordsmen, but I haven't tested my skills against strong Roman infantry. I also don't play as Barbarians very often, although they're not bad. I really enjoy playing as the House of Skippy; firstly, the Romans are versatile, and secondly, they have a wolf!))

Barbarians have very weak defense. However, they excel in attack. But a well-organized defense can easily defeat them – that’s their weakness.

Actually, it's not necessary... If you strike one flank with cavalry and then reinforce it with strong infantry, then it's unlikely that any defensive formation other than a turtle formation will hold.

Why not post some screenshots? The graphics were set to low, though, so... :) 1) Here's what happened: I was playing as Armenia. I bribed a Roman general with diplomacy (you can tell by his face in the screenshot), bought him some mercenaries, and captured a city (it was neutral at the time... I'm not sure). Then, the Scipii arrived and attacked... I think you can guess that this is the lower city... I don't remember which one, but it's closer to the left side... Here. They had a large army, with many different types of legionaries, but I won... thanks to my elephant unit)) Hehe... 2) Just a screenshot... I had a similar army for myself and the Persians, until I developed to the point of having cataphracts... They have good cavalry, even though they mostly have archers))) 3) Suicide units... Sometimes I like to play in such hopeless battles =)

4) Hmm... I think these are the same suicide units, but from an earlier battle... I don't remember anymore... It was a long time ago =)

Civilization and Total War are different games, so there's no need to compare them...

They have the same genre, turn-based strategy, but the focus is on different things.

2 Monarch, what's so unusual about liking Civilization 3? I also think it's the best, although no, the best is 2, that was amazing. 4 game modes, including fantasy and science fiction, meaning a Civilization game with elves or robots.

Alucard, Heroes is also a turn-based strategy game... but in my opinion, these are different games. I can't compare them and choose the best one. P.S. I want Heroes, but with battles like in Total War!!! That would be awesome.

By the way, for Alucard, many mods have been created for 4 civilizations, for example, on a fantasy theme (which also includes game modes). If you want, I'll try to find them for you, but they are in English (but they say it improves everything).

Here are a couple of screenshots: 1. The beginning of the war with the Gauls (it's the very beginning, and it doesn't stand out in any particular way). 2. Proof of the Berserkers' power: I placed 2,000+ peasants against 12 Berserkers... plus some spearmen (but I didn't let the spearmen engage until the Berserkers were defeated)... the Berserkers killed over 700 peasants!!! In general, my favorite units are: Berserkers and the Urban Cohort (I hope I didn't get the name wrong)... even if they aren't necessarily the strongest.
