I'd like to add my two cents (the post above is pure emotion). I watched the England vs. Croatia match, barely switching to the Russia game. Partly because they were supposed to win, otherwise, they really shouldn't have gone to the Euros, and I didn't want to waste my nerves watching them. So, I watched and remembered another recent match at Wembley, when a motivated Russian team flew like some rectangular object made of solid material over a well-known European capital. I watched and understood why Croatia is now first in the group. I saw how they fought on the field, even though they had lost to Macedonia 0-2 just three days earlier. I don't know what their motivation was, but they proved that football is a GAME!!! That you can come out and PLAY, even when you don't need anything anymore. I don't like our commentators, so I listened to the radio sports channel for most of the match (they have an amazing commentator), and there were also broadcasts from the sports club. They were showing two matches, but in three rooms (Russia, Croatia, England), and by the end, there was almost no one left near the Russian screen; everyone was cheering for Croatia. You could hear the roar of the fans (the reporter went outside, but it was still audible) when they won, even though the Russia match was still ongoing, but it wasn't the main thing anymore. I'm writing a bit incoherently, sorry in advance. But what's the point of all this? I don't have any favorite clubs/teams; I prefer to watch a beautiful game and cheer for it first and foremost. Now, I have two teams that I will be cheering for at the Euros – Croatia and Russia. In that order. And one more thing. You can't hope for or believe in our team. You can only CHEER for them, sit down from the first minute of the match until the last, or not watch at all. You can't make predictions or anything else; it's not about us. Croatia, thank you for the GAME!! In the context of all the scandals related to off-field football matters (Italy, etc.), they showed what it means to PLAY!!! To play when they don't need to anymore. I didn't have a chance to watch the football match yesterday, but I asked all my friends to keep me updated via phone, and they all seemed to have coordinated – they called every 4 minutes, saying there was a dangerous moment, etc. Then, when I heard that England had equalized, I thought it was time to get the vodka out and maybe take a couple of pills. But then – NO! Croatia snatched the victory! – so I thought, I'll put the pills back, but the vodka… well, in short, many people will have a day off today.

I also didn't watch the match between Croatia and England. My TV broke (the sound works, but there's no picture), so I went to my relatives' to watch the Belarus-Netherlands match (I'm from Belarus). This match was earlier than the Russia-Andorra match, which I wasn't planning to watch, and I didn't even know that the England-Croatia match would be broadcast (idiot!!). After the game, I came home and called a friend to search the internet (I don't have internet access right now) and find out how the English and Croats played. And he told me that the match had just started (it turns out they're showing it on TVC), and at the same time, the Russia-Andorra match started. He promised to call and report on how things were developing. Fifteen minutes later, he called and said that Croatia was leading 2-0!! I was stunned for a moment and turned on my broken TV to listen to the report about the Russia-Andorra match (TVC doesn't work for me either)))))....
The second half of the Croatia-England match began. Unable to sit still, I turned on a football game on my computer, chose Croatia and England (guess who the computer played as!))) and started playing, hoping that if I won, the real Croats would win too. At first, I was winning, but then the score started changing both in the game and on the computer... In the end, I lost, turned off the computer, and just started walking around the room, no longer believing in a miracle. But then Croatia scored again... At that moment, I started calling someone, and someone was calling me... In short, I'm in shock!!
Croatia is now my favorite team. Buy them all cars. Hiddink is a magician in the truest sense of the word...
P.S. Later, I turned on the computer again and won with Croatia against England.

I'll say right away that I really wanted Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and (now so dear to all of us) Croatia to end up in different groups... So that each of these countries would have a chance to advance from the group... BUT fortune is a strange thing, and today it manifested itself quite unexpectedly... I breathed a sigh of relief hearing that Russia didn't end up in this group (well, agree that it would have been a shame...), but when England got in... I already felt discouraged... I thought of poor Ukraine... England will now turn themselves inside out to prove that missing Euro 2008 was just an accident... And my heart stopped when the ball with the name of the last opponent for this group was drawn; for a moment, a thought of Croatia flashed through my mind, but I pushed it away... however, seeing the unfolded paper and the letter C (Croatia), I no longer doubted what I would hear... Croatia... Laughter in the hall... And my disappointment... Yes... fortune decided to play a joke... a very dark joke... I think all of England was probably smiling maliciously... Well, of course... now they'll really give Croatia a hard time... BUT Croatia can give them quite a thrashing too!.. And what upset me was that the teams I really wanted to cheer for and whose victory I count on ended up in one group and are now forced to fight each other... I laughed a lot and was happy that we have such a great team. I was glad that new teams would play against us. I was tired of constantly playing against the Netherlands, Norway, and Slovenia... It's like there are no other teams in Europe! I laughed at the fact that Croatia and England are in the same group again. I was even a little disappointed that Russia didn't make it into that group. If they had, I would have been happy. But it's okay. The competition will be very tough. At the end of this qualifying tournament, our German coach gave some hope (albeit weak) that our team could cause trouble for the leaders. I really want the English to not make it through again. I will be rooting for our team and Croatia. And then for Ukraine. P.S. Russia, as usual, got lucky with their group. But I'm not sure if the Russians will be able to solve the problem of qualifying from the group before the last round.

2 Andrey: You write beautifully... :), but have your own teams disappointed you so much? Why did you initially support Russia and Croatia? :) And regarding "fate brought them together again" - it's really funny))), I also want another coach to be fired from the England national team)), but honestly, they don't have many tough opponents in their group, except maybe Ukraine, who might come up with something..., although it's unlikely.
