Which level 1 creature is better? The question may seem too trivial, but I would still like to know your opinion.

IMHO, the Halberdier. Even the unupgraded one has 10 hit points, which is a definite plus. It holds up well in defense, and if my memory serves me right, the Champions' cavalry bonus doesn't even affect it. Of course, this isn't a particularly important reason, but it's still worth mentioning. :) In second place, the Captain of Centaurs. Mainly because of its speed and high hit points. True, it's not as powerful in combat as the Halberdiers, but it's swift and brave in attack (running around the battlefield naked isn't exactly a walk in the park).

Master Gremlins are good at ranged combat, but if they get into melee, it won't end well for them.

I think these dwarves are good in the early game, when the goal is to capture as many neutral castles and resources as possible. :) However, in the final battle, they are usually not very useful...

Well, firstly, the fairies will strike first, and secondly, if you're lucky with the terrain, the centaurs might not even get to attack at all!!! Although this is more of an exception... of course, if the centaur captains attack, there will be very few fairies left (if any remain).
However, when I was talking about fairies, I meant that at the beginning, they can do some serious things!!!
An example from a real game: Random map, Conflux, near the castle there are Angel Wings, which are guarded by about 100 (I don't remember exactly) gold golems. Theoretically, they can be defeated by fairies! And what can you do, having Angel Wings at the beginning... it's quite something!
