The argument was that the old engine supposedly couldn't handle spammers, hadn't been supported by the manufacturer for decades, and patches wouldn't fix the problems endlessly.

Well, back when the KB-forum was migrated to the 1C platform, the forum's mafia players did indeed leave for another place. And they played in that "other place" until they got bored. Meanwhile, the 1C forum died off long before that...
