We are opening the traditional annual "Player of the Year" nomination!

Unlike last year, this time we expect a fierce competition. Right off the bat, I can name at least 4 contenders:
LuckyF - winner of the FB-11 tournament;
Redwhait - winner of the CIS Championship, 3rd place in the "Favorites, Battle!" - 10 tournament;
Dave_HUN - winner of the "Favorites, Battle!" - 10 tournament, finalist of the CIS Championship, finalist of the FB-11 tournament;
saneok - winner of the only XL-5 tournament, winner of the team tournaments "One for All and All for One 6" and "Game of Thrones - 2", 1st place in the OFB-12 tournament.

I'm sure that other worthy candidates will be mentioned in the discussion. Although, personally, I've already made my choice :rolleyes:

Let me remind you of the rules: 10 days for nominating candidates, 14 days for voting. In the voting, you can only choose one player, and only votes from those who have been registered on HW for more than a year or have participated in at least one tournament will be counted.

Dave also won a tournament on Diamond, and this year he won the final of the Mirror-2 tournament. DeLux is the winner of the tournament in memory of Vova, a finalist in Diamond, and a finalist in OnlyHL (+ third place in Hard Choice). Sanyok is a finalist in Hard Choice (the final has not yet been played). (Lucky took 1st place in St. Petersburg, Redwhite took 2nd.) I'll think about it some more and decide who to support.

For me, there were two main contenders for this title (Dave and Lucky), but after their head-to-head meeting in a BO-5 mirror match, the choice became obvious. Although, Sanek had a very strong second half of the season – undoubtedly, the breakthrough of the year, he announced himself as a new top player:smile54: But still, if we take the whole season into account, then LuckyF is top 1.

Based on this year's achievements (in my opinion), Saneok is first, LuckyF is second, and Dave_HUN is third.

Personally, I really enjoyed the first week of Dave_hun's matches against Lucky; after that, he didn't guess correctly with the tier list and made a mistake in his development strategy. Also, the matches in the CIS region were excellent, including the final. I think that if you consider the entire season, Dave is slightly ahead of Lucky. The macro game with Bishop was also great, but Bishop himself gave him a chance to win by playing two games simultaneously.

Unlike last year, we're expecting a real competition this time.

Before this topic appeared, I actually thought that the "Player of the Year" was obvious. Dave, Reddy, and Sanek are certainly great, but those who followed Zhenya Lucky will agree – last year, he defeated, in my opinion, everyone he could, playing mostly against top players, and consistently showed strong gameplay.

I agree with the speaker above; the choice is obvious. LuckF was the strongest player last year.

There isn't a clear favorite.
In 2018, the finals of 5 major tournaments were played:

CIS 2018 (final: Reddi - Dave)
FB-11 (final: Lucky - Dave)
Khota-Zerkala-2 (final: Dave - ATG)
Only-HL-5 (final: Sanyok - DeLuxe)
Lyubimchiki-10 (final: Dave - Bishop)

It's a mystery how one can definitively say that Zhenya is the obvious choice, even while acknowledging his top-tier skill.
The discovery of the year is undoubtedly Sanyok, who showed unique progress and also proved himself as a team player.
In my opinion, considering the overall results, Dave is the player of the year.
Many will vote with their hearts, of course,
but if it weren't for that unique player with his magical shovel, Dave would have won this nomination by a landslide.
So, because Reddi "dug up" Dave in the CIS final, a tournament that Zhenya unfortunately couldn't attend, is Zhenya obviously the best?
At the very least, it's not obvious.

Everything is correct, except for the fact that Dave and Lucky played a series of games on mirrored maps, which ended in a crushing defeat for Zhenya.

Well, Reddy wasn't digging in the final; he only tried to "out-dig" the opponent there, but that's not the point. Dave certainly performed well, however I'll throw it out there: Dave and Luczki had mirror matches for stakes throughout the year and, let's just say, it's one-caliber with our Lakerk ;) so judge for yourselves, Luczki didn't beat anyone this year except me! 2 Jebus Cross and Kerberos — just torn apart! :D

Zhenya did not play in most tournaments. He played many series and won most of them. Well, the nomination is not necessarily judged by the number of tournaments won.
The choice is difficult, I want to choose two: Dave and Lucky :smile54:
But in my opinion, Zhenya did a lot of work this year, achieved the top 1 ranking in HeroesWorld and played a lot, and such efforts should be rewarded. +for Evgeniy

And the nomination isn't mandatory; it's evaluated based on the number of tournaments won.

I view the Player of the Year award exclusively as a recognition for the strongest player over the calendar year. And here I take into account not only the tournaments on HeroesWorld, which are losing prestige and appeal among the portal's strongest players with each passing year, but also the money games, various series, etc., between these same HeroesWorld players. In these, one can assess player strength even more objectively due to a larger number of games, compared to what can be done in a typical bo1 between them in a single tournament. Especially since there was only one online tournament that gathered all the portal's strongest players. And despite the possible variance, even in that tournament, the same person won who consistently wins series or money games. So the choice is obvious.
