You have different versions of the game. To fix the error, you need to have the same versions. That is, either you need to install version 4.0, or your opponent needs to use version 3.1. ;)
4.0, also known as Platinum, is compatible with 3.2; there are two options: either you buy a Platinum disc or a licensed SoD and patch it to 3.2, or your friend buys a pirated version, also known as 3.0(3.1)
