Hello, comrades. If something similar has already been discussed, please don't be too harsh, as I couldn't find it.
After playing DooM 2 and Heroes 5, I decided to create a monster in the first game using undead sprites from the Necropolis faction in Heroes 5, as I really liked them. But I encountered two problems, and I play Heroes quite often, especially Tribes of the East, but I've forgotten a few things.
1. I'm 100% sure that in one of the fifth Heroes games – a specific version/part – you could even view the monster model from all sides within the game itself, without using external programs. I think that when you buy them in the castle, you could press something and view it in 3D from any angle. But I don't remember which version/part it was. If anyone knows, please let me know; it's very important for creating 8 sprites of this creature + 8 sprites of it attacking with its scythe + 8 sprites of it casting a spell, because the camera simply doesn't want to approach the monster from the left side during battle and in some other situations, and the sprite angle isn't quite right.
2. Since I couldn't simply take screenshots of the sprites and crop them in Photoshop, I decided to search the forums and found that the monster models are located in the "geometry" folder within the game archive. But the problem is that I don't have 3D Max, and Blender doesn't seem to recognize the files from that folder when I try to open them.
P.S. In general, if there are already separate 3D models of the monsters available, and I just don't know about them, please share a link, and most importantly, tell me what program I can use to open them.
Here's an example of what I need:
