Somehow it just wrote itself, by accident.
Yanling
The Yanling family lived quite poorly, despite the fact that her father was a decent blacksmith, her mother worked as a servant for a noble family, and her old grandmother dealt with herbs. They never went hungry, but they could not afford any extra expenses, and it had always been this way for as long as Yanling could remember. She became the only child in the family at age five, when she learned that both of her older brothers had died defending the wall from northern savages. She never even saw a single one of them. Her mother and father were very upset by what happened, but rather not because they loved their sons dearly, but because they were left without support in their old age. After all, the pay the soldiers received was far from unnecessary.
The girl spent most of her time with her grandmother, who taught her the art of the herbalist. This is what the girl continued to do later, but after her father's death, her mother insisted that seventeen-year-old Yanling become a servant in place of her at the Beifongs', as the mother herself could no longer perform her duties properly, and you cannot earn much from herbs. The girl submitted to her mother and soon began working in the house of aristocrats. This is where her incredible love for various kinds of jewelry began, which in the future grew into a true obsession.
Entering the home of noble people for the first time, Yanling could not help but notice the luxury in which they lived. She was most impressed by the jewelry of the mistress of the house, an older aristocrat whose hands, neck, and ears were adorned with jewelry featuring various precious stones. Seeing them, the girl immediately wanted to possess them. However, she could not steal; the consequences could be too serious. And that is when she decided that the mistress's young son would help her get what she desired…
On the surface, Yanling seemed like a sweet, modest, and calm girl. But as they say, appearances are deceptive and still waters run deep... Being quite beautiful, she had many suitors. And for her, all of them were more than just admirers. Over time, unpleasant rumors spread through the city, but Yanling paid no attention to them. She didn't care. She justified herself by saying that she always received a certain benefit from her connections—from money and food to pets. And she did not want to admit to herself that she actually just liked what she was doing, and would do it even if she received no material values. Her mother turned a blind eye to her daughter's behavior, as long as they didn't live in hunger. But she worried deeply that she would never manage to find a fool who would take her daughter as a wife.

A light knock was heard.
- Come in, - said the young man sitting at the writing desk.
- Good evening Master Beifong, - Yanling said, entering the room and curtsying.
- Hello Yanling, did you want something from me? – the aristocrat stood up from the table and approached the servant.
- I am very embarrassed to ask you this, but your mother is so strict, she won't listen to me…
- What happened? Speak plainly.
- Well, I have been working for you for three months now; I would like to buy the earrings of your mother, which she hasn't worn since I appeared here... I have saved up money, though I don't know if it will be enough, oh my god, why did I even come...
Master Beifong's son laughed.
- Usually servants steal such things, grabbing everything that isn't bolted down.
- Master, I am not like that; my mother has worked for you her whole life and never once stole anything, and neither will I!
- Calm down, I was just speaking casually. Now show me, how much money do you have there?
Yanling held out a small pouch of gold coins. Beifong took the pouch, looked inside, and shook his head.
- It's a bit too little.
- Perhaps I can do something else for you?
- Something else?
Yanling approached her master closely, slid her hand into his trousers, and then sank to her knees.
- Well, perhaps you can…
On the evening of that same day, Yanling held a small mirror before her, examining her new earrings. She was so happy that she didn't notice her mother enter the room. Seeing the earrings, the mother raised a scream.
- Are you an idiot, did you steal them?! Return them tomorrow, before Mistress Beifong notices they are gone! You chicken-brained girl! Have you completely lost your mind, do you want to be left without a job and without a hand?!
- Don't scream at me! I didn't steal them! I earned them!
The mother narrowed her eyes.
- You little slut! – the mother said and slapped Yanling across the face. – It is disgusting living under one roof with you. I tolerated this for a long time, but no more! If you don't stop your escapades, I will tell the captain of the city guard that you are practicing prostitution! You know yourself what happens to you for that.
- He won't believe you, you crazy old woman!
- He will, he certainly will; the whole neighborhood knows what a tramp you are. Moreover, your father was friends with him, and I am well acquainted with him.
The girl pushed her mother away and ran out of the house. Reaching a clearing with a tree, she sat by it and began to cry. Having calmed down slightly, Yanling decided that regardless of everything, she would live as she wanted. She stopped giving herself to everyone indiscriminately, focusing on Master Beifong. Yanling understood that she needed to shake as many jewels out of him as possible before she bored him. Fortunately for her, Beifong turned out to have quite a few friends just like himself... Whatever it took, she did it to get the desired trinkets. Her mother, of course, knew nothing about this, as the girl hid all obtained items in a cache she specially constructed in the forest. And everything would have been fine if not for that unfortunate day when Yanling saw an amulet with a black stone on her mistress's neck. In the evening, after the end of the working day, the girl went to Master Beifong, but he told her that the amulet cost more than all the selling women in the city, so Yanling should forget about it. But she couldn't, she simply couldn't. Hiding in the mistress's bedroom, the girl intended to steal the amulet that very night. Unfortunately, the mistress went to sleep without removing the precious trinket…
Trying to step as quietly as possible, Yanling crept up to the bed and, barely breathing, with trembling hands tried to remove the jewelry from her mistress's neck. It was quite foolish, but the girl had completely lost her mind at the sight of the amulet.
- What is happening, Yanling, what are you doing here? – wondered the awakened Mistress Beifong.
Yanling caught her breath. She could not utter a word, although there was nothing to say anyway.
- Were you trying to steal the amulet?! Oh..
Before Mistress Beifong could finish speaking, Yanling grabbed the amulet with both hands and pulled it toward herself. The chain turned out to be quite thick and strong. In the heat of the struggle, the girl didn't even notice that she strangled her mistress with it. Coming to her senses and realizing what she had done, Yanling, without thinking twice, raced home at full speed. Gathering all necessary things, explaining nothing to her mother, Yanling fled the city, taking a jewelry box from her cache.

That fatal incident radically changed Yanling's life. Much time has passed since then, but her passion for precious stones did not disappear. Nor did another hobby, which now served not only her whims but also the needs of a small community of Ovolos cultists. Wandering from city to city. Yanling skillfully lured young and healthy men into unfortunate places where she and her friends dwelt. They never lacked food. But everything comes to an end; having played too much and forgotten vigilance, the cultists doomed themselves to death. Government agents tracked down the bloodsuckers and killed every single one. Everyone except Yanling. By a stroke of luck, she managed to avoid death. Now she has to start her life over again, in a new city…
