I have a few questions:
1. I know how to take screenshots, but I don't know which folder they are saved in. How can I move them to my desktop?
2. I don't understand where to install mods: where should I add the UserMODS folder? Both in data\dataa1, and how do I make them work (I have the Mod Manager)?
3. How do I uninstall patches (patches 3.1 and 1.6 are causing problems)?

If I remember correctly, the screenshots are stored in "My Documents" in the Heroes folder. Mods can be installed using the mod manager or by placing them in the mods folder, which should be available by default. The exact procedure depends on the version. I don't know how to remove patches without reinstalling the game.

Are the game files not located on the system drive? Then, of course, reinstalling Windows wouldn't have affected the game files. You need to delete the game folder and reinstall the game (if, of course, you have the disk ;) ). Although, there might be another way...
Regarding mods, download the mod manager from here. It seems like a convenient tool.

Is "Photozhaba" the same as Photoshop? Could you provide instructions on how to change the file extension? There isn't an option for that in the settings. And another question: how do I crop out unnecessary parts of a screenshot (e.g., the interface)?

Yes, it's Photoshop, but in principle, you can crop and change the resolution in Paint as well. I'm not sure I can explain how to crop in Photoshop, even though I know how.

In Photoshop, select the "Crop" tool, highlight the area you want to keep, right-click, and choose "crop." Then, in the "save as" menu, select the desired format (e.g., JPEG).
There are many programs for this purpose. For example, I convert using IrfanView with the Shell extension plugin (it's quick and convenient, and you can process files in batches), and I crop using the standard Picture Manager (from Office).

No, they shouldn't – they are located in My Documents/My Games. But just in case, you can make a backup copy of the save folder :smile16:.

P.S. Regarding transparent pixels, Zubr is right; I didn't think about that :o. Picture Manager won't help with that.

If using Photoshop:
Select everything you want to keep. Invert the selection. Delete everything that was selected. Then, use the background eraser to remove any remaining background fragments (so that squares appear, indicating emptiness), and then delete everything that was selected again.
Next, go to Image, option Trim, and crop the transparent pixels.
Finally, save the resulting image with the .jpeg extension.

I reinstalled the original Heroes, and the patches are gone! Thanks to everyone for the help! Now I'll do the same trick with "Tribes of the East".

You'll need any program that can read the tga format - IrfanView, XnView, ACDSee, Nero Photo Snap (usually comes with Nero), or even Photoshop. Use "Save As" to choose the jpeg (or bmp) format and save it. Then you can crop it with Paint if you want.

I managed to reformat the file and remove the unnecessary parts. How do I now remove the white background and leave only the image?
