Wizards are proud seekers of knowledge, striving to subdue the order of the universe. Their society is dedicated to wisdom and learning — mages spend their lives studying and describing the occult sciences.
The Silver Cities are ruled by a senate of wizards called the Circle of Nine. Nevertheless, each city maintains a greater or lesser degree of independence. Citizens who lack access to magic are primarily second-class in this society, but they have the opportunity to utilize magical power, which is the primary source of social and political success. Magic is taught in academies within the large cities — an aura of mystery surrounding magic is not encouraged in this society. These academies are official institutions (like Cambridge or Oxford in our world), with a certain degree of formalism: which specific academy you attend has a great influence on what you will study, how exactly you will study it, and how your future life will unfold. Wizards organize themselves into "schools," following the teachings of one great mage or another, and these schools compete fiercely among themselves.
Mages rule over serving creatures that they have either summoned or animated using magic.
