I really love this book; I've read it about 5 times. I bought the movie on a licensed copy, so as they say, "This is the best!"

As a big fan of the genre, I'm ready to worship Tolkien! Don't get me wrong... it's a brilliant mind, a brilliant mind!

Is there anyone here who has read "The Silmarillion" or "Unfinished Tales"? (though "Tales" is mostly just rambling).

Today I’m walking home from my horseback riding classes in Sosenki (a quiet, deserted ravine). It’s dark... I hear a sound, like someone chopping wood... Well, I figure, some homeless guys decided to keep warm) I get closer, and THERE ARE TWO GUYS, IN WHITE CLOTHES, FIGHTING WITH SWORDS:eek:
To say I was freaked out is to say nothing; only one thought was pounding in my frightened heart:Either they’re maniacs... or they’re PALADINS))) So, cowardly... sideways, sideways, I tried to skirt around the pair of persistent hallucinations...
Suddenly, one hallucination waves a sword in my direction and yells: Miss, don’t be afraid, we’re TOLKIENISTS...
but for some reason it sounded to me like he said sadists))

I've read The Silmarillion twice. The Lord of the Rings – about 5 times, and The Hobbit approximately the same number of times, including in the original. Rainbow, you get my kudos for this topic!

So, you read the book in English... that's commendable. I can't boast such knowledge of English. :smile39:

Ah... I respect Tolkien. I haven't read it in the original :( there's no physical copy :( and my English isn't good enough :( I do have "Unfinished Tales" :) I also have "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings". And I have "The Hobbit" and the first two parts in Muravyov's translation :) one of the first ones...

I've read both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, as well as The Silmarillion. For a while, Tolkien was my favorite author, until I read Dune. Now, I don't particularly feel like rereading them, especially after the frankly awful adaptation (in terms of conveying the book's ideas).

The poor adaptation doesn't guarantee success; Jackson needed to recoup his investment and convey the atmosphere. He managed to convey the atmosphere, at least 50%, in the first film, more so than in the third. But it's understandable that the third film has more large-scale scenes.

I absolutely love Tolkien's Creation in general, and LOTR and The Hobbit in particular! I read them at least once a year; since I first read LOTR at 8 years old, that makes it about 10 readings + god-knows-how-many times I've watched the movie... Even though the text is poorly conveyed, the movie is good on its own (excluding monster Legolas — not for his behavior or appearance, but for his unimaginable and absolutely unrealistic coolness in battle — and feminist Arwen from the first part; in the others, she corresponds quite well to the book version in the movie).
I would especially recommend Tolkien's Articles on literature, fairy tales, and mythology to fans... Simply great! Not to mention such gems as the story "Farmer Giles of Ham":)

Both the movies and the books are classics, and they are simply amazing... I probably won't elaborate further, as everything has been said many times before... There are, of course, many inconsistencies in the movie, but they don't spoil the overall impression. And in my pirated third part of the DVD, there was an amazing phrase in the translation:

Final scene: a group of people and elves are surrounded by thousands of orcs in front of the gates of Mordor. Aragorn encourages the troops: "For Gondor! For Estonia, my brothers!!!" And the English voiceover, with a slight delay, says "Rohan!!!"

And in my pirated, director's cut version of the second game (where I have English audio with Russian subtitles), "great host" (in the context of "large crowds" - when Theoden talks to the "resurrected" Aragorn) was translated as "big boss"... I was speechless...

I’d rather not talk about what I was doing after watching the Rohirrim-Estonians… But I definitely wasn’t in bed, where I was watching it… Although… Their king was definitely a bit slow… Who knows – maybe the truth is spoken through the words of Aragorn?:D

And they're all blondes there... :D
