Initial conditions:
Game: Heroes 5 - Horde (licensed or online version) + patch 3.1 + mods (TacticalInterfaceHD, spell_description, Skill_wheel_3.1, megaAI, m30_rus_combatcolor, HeroInfo3.02, EWA_CoolTip, ()Transform_Undead) + NHF 0.88.5, no cheat codes!
Computer: Windows 7 x64 (licensed), all drivers updated to the latest versions, hardware resources +1000% of the game's maximum settings.
Scenario: AI level - Hero, map "Great Confrontation" (original scenario), my faction - Dwarves.
If it weren't for the attempt to play beyond the point where only a few turns remain until victory over the AI, I would think that the game runs perfectly on my computer: fast loading, fast AI turns, fast saving. But I decided to fight on this map for a longer time, specifically: I almost completely defeat the AI and retreat to my territory, leaving it with 6 cities against my 3. Dwarves (me) against Humans and Mages (one AI color). While the AI is gathering armies, I level up my heroes on the remaining neutral creatures and regularly visit dungeons for artifacts. As a result, I have 3 heroes with levels 30-35. It takes about 10-15 months of game time, and finally, the AI attacks a city where guards with a level 30+ hero and the ability to increase their life and attack/defense depending on their level are stationed. Naturally, the AI loses, and from that moment on, the game, which was working perfectly, starts to glitch terribly!
First, periodic crashes begin, usually on the last day of the week after the AI's turn before the autosave. But in the early stages, this can be fixed by reloading the last day. It doesn't always work on the first try, and the autosave for the last day of the week may fail, but the game continues. And now, here's the catch: an AI hero who fled after attacking my city appears in an AI city, but he doesn't play, and the AI completely ignores this hero and the city where this hero is located. When I realized this, I simply went to that city and killed this phantom. The game crashed to the desktop on that turn before the autosave. As it turned out later, this phantom was simultaneously in two cities, and the AI completely ignored them (when I captured these cities, there were a significant number of unredeemed troops there, while in the cities that the AI did not ignore, there were no troops available for recruitment). I killed this phantom several times, and the game always crashed at the end of the day. Then I brought a second hero to the city where the clone of this phantom was located and attacked both cities simultaneously. And lo and behold, the game continued!
Then some time passed - I see that, despite the fact that I have 3 cities, and the AI has 6 cities, it doesn't increase its armies at all. I have a real advantage. Several more months pass, and the game continues to crash occasionally, but this is fixed by reloading. Eventually, the AI comes with a weak army and starts brazenly taking my mines, right next to my hero, who is many times stronger. I attack, the AI flees, and the game either crashes immediately or before the next autosave! And this cannot be fixed in any way; that is, the game always crashes to the desktop with a warning that an error has occurred and the program will terminate, with an offer to send an error message to Microsoft. And if I don't attack this hero, the program won't crash, and the next day will come. It's a total mess.
I tried to solve the problem in various ways - the game was originally installed from a licensed disc - as a result, there were glitches and crashes. Reinstallation did not help. I started to think that maybe the game is read incorrectly when installed from the disc (after all, the disc is more than 10 years old!), I completely uninstalled the game, downloaded the online version, started playing again, and as a result, the same thing - glitches and crashes! Although at first the game plays perfectly until I have a clear advantage over the AI, but as soon as I give the AI cities and territory and generally don't attack it with a stronger army, the game starts to glitch and crash! By the way, the online version seemed even more stable than the one from the disc. I tried running it in compatibility mode, downloaded DirectX 9 libraries in DirectX 11 - nothing helps. In the 10-15th month, the game starts to glitch and crash.
So, explain - is this some kind of trick from the developers, where when the AI is weaker, it stops playing, and at the same time, the game starts to glitch and crash?
